The group directed the Engineer cost out a system that would include the Pleasant Lake are (on its own), Battisse Lake are (on its own), White Lake area (on its own) and all the above combined. - Deputy Walter Luck of the Jackson County Sheriffs Marine Division covered many boating safety issues. Most all items are on the Water Safety page but he brought up an additional one. All water craft that have enclosed fuel tanks (built in) or closed compartments where flammable fumes may accumulate MUST carry a USCG approved Class “B” fire extinguisher. This includes PWC’s, Pontoon Boats, and Speed Boats. He also went over the 100 foot rule which states that any craft going faster than SLOW NO WAKE SPEED must stay 100 Feet from a dock, moored or anchored vessel, a person in the water, or a marked or occupied swimming area. A person pulling/towing someone behind a watercraft on skiis, a tube, or wake board is responsible to see that the person being towed also maintains 100 feet distance from other objects in the water. PWC’s manage to get about 65% of the tickets issued on the water. The Sheriff’s Department has Boating safety classes scheduled. To enroll call 517 768 7921 There are two classes scheduled for June. They are NOT on the DNR website.
