10 Reasons why you should belong to PBWOA
(1) We are a united voice in the community representing the riparian property owners and the environmentally conscious in protecting the environment and keeping this lake community pristine. (2) We are the organization, founded in 1940, that was responsible for the establishment of desirable lake levels, the establishment of the Portage Dam, and the river dredging to relieve the monumental flooding situations that occurred in 1947 and 1956. (3) We are also the organization that promoted and brought about the Portage/Base Sewer System that brought this Lake Community into the 21st Century. (4) We are the only organization that is monitoring water quality of these lakes on a yearly basis through hiring the services of limnologist, Dr. Wally Fusilier, who monitors Little Portage, Portage, Base and Tamarac Lakes along with the Portage River and other tributaries. (5) We are the organization that established a Marine Patrol for providing safe operation of watercraft on these lakes. (6) We are the only organization that has gone into litigation on the behalf of both riparian and non-riparian rights of ownership. We have settled many conflicts of neighbor-against-neighbor thus helping to protect their rights as provided by law. (7) We have been working with all four townships to create ordinances that are designed to protect lake community property owners from boundary disputes and from encroachment on setbacks. (8) We are the organization responsible for maintaining the Washtenaw County Severe Weather Warning Siren located on Dexter Pinckney Rd. at Portage Lake with a 15 year maintenance contract. (9) We keep our members informed through our newsletters. In addition, when you join PBWOA we pay for your subscription to the Michigan Riparian Magazine which contains beneficial information to all lakefront property owners. We also support the Michigan Lakes and Streams Association in their efforts to educate lakefront property owners. (10) We host, every year, as part of our community contributions, an excellent one-day Boating Safety Class put on by the Washtenaw County Marine Patrol. We also contribute to the very enjoyable fireworks put on by a local independent committee. Please give this your utmost consideration. The $50.00 annual dues is money that will be wisely invested in your community. Please fill out the membership card and mail it to PBWOA, 11869 Durston, Pinckney, MI 48169 or call one of the officers on the home page. We need your support.
