The PBWOA board has established a Historical Committee to compile a history of the Portage Chain of lakes and to act as a repository of newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, letters, postcards, documents and photographs so that interesting stories of the past can be widely known and preserved.  The Committee plans to obtain oral histories from longtime residents and research records to write the history.

   If you would like to participate, or have maps, letters, photos or other memorabilia you would share, please contact Bill Tupper, Secretary of the Board, at 734 426 8249 Email w.tupper@chartermi.net or Bob Reed, Chair of the Historical Committee at 734 426 9116 Email rreed44840@aol.com.  All documents and photos will be scanned and the original returned to the owners.

Dr. Robert Reed reported that we have 1500 old photographs of this lake area that have been scanned to disc by member Don Canham.

The committee reported that we still need information on the old Red Hen / Anchor Inn. We need a photo of when it was owned by Janowski’s.

The question about Henry Ford being at a fish camp here on Base has not been supported.

We are still in need of some good writers. We got the reporters we need someone who has the time to write the stories. It is a fun, interesting and exciting project. If you would like to help call Bob Reed at 734 426 9116 or Bill Tupper at 734 426 8249.
