* Note: To best handle and service your needs, please use the following procedure:
Please do not call your Block Captains or Board Members with complaints that need to be handled by the individual. (Such as barking dogs, snow removal, etc.) You will get better and quicker results by calling the appropriate people. Please keep in mind that the Block Captains and MLA Board are made up of volunteers. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM In 2001 the Lake Association activated a Neighborhood Watch program for the residents of Murray Lake . The program establishes a communication system between the sheriff department and the neighborhood. The security of a neighborhood and its citizens depends upon the people themselves. The most important thing to remember is the program doesn't work unless we as a community get involved. This system is for concerned residents to report emergencies and other problems to the Kent County Sheriff Department. This first part is to know your neighbors and be able to recognize them and where they live. This will enable you to know if someone is prowling around or if it is just another neighbor. The next part is to look beyond your own home. Look around and see what's happening in your neighborhood; is someone prowling around a house, is there a strange car in the driveway, are the lights on when they are normally not? Once the observations are made, the sheriff department needs to be notified. 9-1-1- is for all emergencies, 336-3113 for non-emergency. Keith Kazelskis is our community contact person at the department if you have questions or hear of a problem of concern, such as a break in (his number is 632-6228). They have encouraged us to communicate with him so situations are not misinformed and appropriate information can be distributed throughout our calling list. We do have block captains and key contact persons to help with the distribution of any important information. When reporting a crime or emergency to the authorities, the following information is needed:
These requested items are very important, however, do not wait until you can answer all of them before calling. With the lake becoming more populated with new homes or remodel projects we become a prime target for theft and vandalism. Be aware and lock up when leaving, even if it's only for a trip to the store or a cruise in the boat.
