LAKE WATER QUALITY

Lake water sampling by lake management consultants from 1986 through 1994

showed fairly consistent results - relatively good quality.

* Water is safe for swimming and all other water-based activities

* Cloudy appearance of water is due primarily to dissolved solids (from clay soils). If water were clear in a

lake this shallow and nutrient-rich, aquatic weeds would be a major problem - thus some cloudiness is an

advantage for Loch Erin. * Lake warms rather quickly in spring due to shallowness and cloudiness of water

and summer water temperatures may exceed 80o F. Shallow depths prevent formation of a thermocline - so

water temperature does not vary much with depth.

* Oxygen levels in lake are acceptable year round - no evidence of winter fish kills.

FISH

1992 Questionnaire to membership listed fish caught, in decreasing order of abundance as Carp, Bluegill,

Crappie, Sunfish, Bass, Bullhead, Yellow Perch, Pumpkinseed, and Walleye. Professional fish census in 1993

listed fish collected, in decreasing order of abundance as White Crappie, Bluegill, Bullhead, Carp, Bass,

Walleye, Perch, Pike, Green Sunfish.

Stunted White Crappie control efforts by trapping and removal were initiated in 1994.

Seedings of predator fish is continuing, in large enough sizes to be effective.
