HUTCHINS LAKE BOATING LAWS AND REGULATIONS The Laws are listed in the Marine Safety Act. All BOATING LAWS AND REGULATIONS will be enforced by the Marine Patrol of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department. There will be frequent patrols. 1. The operation of powered watercraft, including personal watercraft, at speeds which create a wake are restricted to the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. A. Personal watercraft are Jet Skis, Ski-Doos, Wave Runners etc.. B. Such personal watercraft may not cross wake within 150 feet behind another vessel. 2. All powered watercraft must stay 100 feet, preferably more, from fishing boats, sailing boats, swimming areas, docks, boat floats, buoys, rafts or inhabited shores. A. Anyone under the age of 12 may not operate powered watercraft. B. A person between the age of 12 and 16 may operate powered watercraft having a boating safety certificate or accompanied by someone over the age of 16. 3. All powered watercraft are required to travel in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE DIRECTION around the lake. This includes water skiers. 4. No powered watercraft may be operated in a reckless manner which endangers life, limb or property. 5. All ski boats require one operator and one competent observer. 6. Personal watercraft with only one person are not allowed to pull water skiers. 7. Sailboats, rowboats and canoes have the right of way over powered watercraft. Skiers must also yield. VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW 8. Additional recommendations: A. Speedboats and skiers and personal watercraft please stay 300 feet (100 yards) from wetland shores (uninhabited shores) to avoid damaging damaging spawning and fishing areas. 9.
