The following services are performed by or on the behalf of the Glen Lake
Association both for its members and the general public, as indicated, in
pursuit of the associations mission.
Crystal River Dam
This GLA has owned and controlled the Crystal
River Dam since 1954. It's
Water Level Committee uses the dam to maintain the appropriate lake level for lake
and river health and enjoyment based on a court ordered algortihm.
Landowner's Manual
The Water Quality Committee has developed a Glen Lake
Crystal River Watershed Landowner's Manual and a corresponding Stewardship Checklist to
assist everyone in the watershed in improving water quality.
Lost and Found
Have you lost or found an item in/on the lake. Check out this
page to determine if a member has found it or to report your lost item.
Safe Navigation
The GLA provides deployment and maintenance of buoys
to assist in safe lake navigation through its
Water Safety Committee.
Shoreline Management
The GLA, through its Water
Quality Committee, provides riparians with
information on how to improve their properties and reduce pollutants from
entering the lake. The association also does on site assessment of
selected
property and water frontage and advises property owners on improvements they
can make to
reduce erosion and improve water quality.
Swimmer's Itch
The Swimmer's Itch
Committee is involved in monitoring,
researching and controlling swimmers itch in the lake.
Zebra Mussel/Invasive Species
The Zebra Mussel/Invasive Species activity, handled by the
committee of the same name, is performed by volunteers, and some paid
summer help, to inspect and/or wash down boats being placed into Glen Lake
at the public launch on Little Glen Lake in order to prevent the spread of
zebra mussels into the lake's water system. They also perform analysis
of plant life found in the lake to ascertain the make up of such growth and
looking for any exotic plant life. Of particular interest is the
invasive Eurasian Water Milfoil, which has attacked a number of Michigan
lakes.
