Responsibilities:

The
Invasive Species Committee has evolved from its initial charter to prevent the spread of Zebra Mussels into our lake.  The committee sponsored a number of initiatives to accomplish this task.  For years they have provided voluntary spray down of boats and flushing of outboards and out drives at the boat launch on Little Glen to help preclude the entry of  Zebra Mussel into the lake. They now also have programs to fend off the development of Eurasian watermilfoil, a very aggressive plant, as well as other invasive species from entering our lake.

Unfortunately, we have discovered Zebra Mussels in the summer of 2003 in the lake.  At this point our only recourse is to attempt to remove any zebra mussels we find and destroy them.  If you find any in the lake attached to clams, you should remove the mussel from the clam and return the clam to the lake.  If mussels are attached to inanimate objects, simply remove the object, if removable, or remove the mussel from the object and destroy it.  A mussel can be burned, crushed, or will die if simply left alone out of the water.
