Crystal River Dam

One of the many important services provided by the Glen Lake Association is the control and maintenance of the dam at the Crystal River.  Since 1954, the water level of the Glen Lakes has been controlled at the dam by manual insertion or removal of wooden timbers.  This process allowed the Association to maintain a District Court mandate of lake levels and facilitate safe access to lake in the summer and minimize ice damage on shore in the winter.

In 2002 the Association undertook the costly rebuilding of the Crystal River Dam to correct inherent problems in the old dam, and allow for improved lake/river level control.  This task was completed in 2002.  A picture of the new dam can be seen on the Water Level Committee page on this site.

The new dam allows the GLA to make finer adjustments and also allows for winter adjustments, which will aid in achieving improved water levels, in spite of the multi-year drought the area has been experiencing.
