EAGLE LAKE-PAW PAW ASSOCIATION
BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING
Call To Order: President Skip Youngblood called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM
Members Present: President Skip Youngblood; Vice President Chuck Cubbage; Treasurer Pat Cubbage; Secretary Doug Dorgan; Collins Cove Rep Ruth Wilkinson; Eagle Lake Campers Rep Skip Youngblood; Eagle Lake Park Rep Chuck Cubbage; Eagle Lake Sub Rep Brian Hansen; Trails End Rep Harold Finley; Hoodrije Shores Rep Ken Nielsen; At-Large Member Gary Sargent.
Members Absent: Palmer Beach Rep David Baker; Keepsake Shores Rep. Casey Bush; Web Master Barb Kohl.
Minutes: Minutes of the March 9, 2004 meeting were approved on motion by Harold Finley and second by Chuck Cubbage.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer reported a balance of $683.75 in the account with recent payments of $25 for MLSA Web Site access, $100.70 for replacement of the Water Safety sign at the public access site and $11.32 for printing expense for copies of the EnviroScience weevil status report. Report was approved on motion by Doug Dorgan and second by Chuck Cubbage.
Committee reports:
Government: No report
Finance: No additional report.
Health and Safety: The “Water Safety Matters!” sign has been replaced at the public access site. Additional Boater Safety Training classes have been shown in the upcoming newsletter.
Water Quality: A final report has been received from EnviroScience following their physical survey last September and copies were made available to the area representatives in attendance. Efforts are underway to have the report posted on the web site. The report shows significant improvement in growth of the weevil population and return of native species plant growth with mixed results at the most severe locations. While EnviroScience’s responsibilities have been completed, progress of the treatment will continue to be monitored by the Association, it is expected that significant additional improvement will occur over the next couple of years. Paw Paw Township has been authorized to make final payment to EnviroScience from the remaining funds available.
Newsletter: A final draft of the newsletter was presented to the Board by Doug Dorgan and was approved for final preparation as presented. Copies of the newsletter will be printed and hand delivered to resident property owners and mailed to non-resident owners by the weekend.
Nominating Committee: no report
Web Site: All past meeting minutes that are available should now be posted on the web site.
Old Business: Keepsake Shores will advise Doug Dorgan on use of their access site for the annual meeting and breakfast following their meeting on April 18. Gary Sargent will discuss procurement of the food with John Tapper.
Ruth Wilkinson advised on information she developed at the request of the Board regarding the Lake Cora lake association and the activities that association has been involved in. This association has been in existence since 1972 and provides a large variety of services to the Lake Cora property owners, many of those services beyond water quality and water safety issues. Of significant interest was their “self treatment” of their milfoil and weed problem with 2-4 D for which they have received a permit. Further consideration will be given to these activities at future ELPPA Board meetings.
Harold Finley expressed concern regarding the number of Board members who are apparently unable to attend the Board meetings and wondered if the time or day of the week were a problem. This will be further considered at future Board meetings with emphasis to the various area associations to select representatives who will have to time to attend the meetings.
