EAGLE LAKE-PAW PAW ASSOCIATIONBOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETINGVAN BUREN CONFERENCE CENTERTUESDAY JUNE 10, 2003President Skip Youngblood called the meeting to order at 7:12 PM Present: President Skip Youngblood; Treasurer Pat Cubbage; Collins Cove Rep Ruth Wilkinson; Eagle Lake Campers Rep Skip Youngblood; Eagle Lake Park Rep Chuck Cubbage; Eagle Lake Subdivision Rep Brian Hansen represented by Nancy Hansen; Trails End Rep Harold Finley; Hoodrije Shores Rep Doug Dorgan; Keepsake Shores Rep Casey Bush. Absent: Secretary Bernice Packer, past President Glen Wilkinson; Palmer Beach Rep David Baker; and Member-at-Large John Tapper. Doug Dorgan took minutes of the meeting on behalf of Bernice Packer. The Minutes of the May 13, 2003 meeting were handed out and unanimously approved on motion by Chuck Cubbage second by Ruth Wilkinson. Treasurer reported $1672.15 in the treasury and noted some dues payments were being received. The Treasurer’s report was unanimously approved on motion by Doug Dorgan second by Harold Finley. Committee Reports: Government – None Finance – None Health and Safety- The difficulty with identifying those who are operating various watercraft outside the permitted hours was discussed. The possibility of paying for increased patrols of the lake, as some other lakes may be doing, was discussed with no specific action being taken. Chuck Cubbage will check with Dave Baker regarding the plans to post a sign at the access site based on the full-page lake rules sheet that was sent with the newsletter mailing. Doug Dorgan advised he had received information back from the Sheriff’s Office regarding the distance a diving raft can be from the shore. While the rule was 100 feet, now the restriction is it cannot be in the navigational area of the lake. While this distance may be subject to interpretation, that fact that our lake is occasionally patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department, we may need to depend on their policing this issue. Water Quality- Chuck Cubbage advised there appeared to be a fair amount of weed reduction along Hwy 51 and the north side of the lake. Trails End looked better but the Eagle lake Park cove still seemed to be quite heavy. However, there was more evidence of native species further indicating there may be less milfoil. Chuck also advised our water level was 10 inches lower than last fall while many lakes were reporting levels that are above average. Chuck has invited a few people from other lakes to attend our annual meeting. Doug Dorgan indicated he had heard from a lake resident that the ice was 28 inches thick this past winter, which apparently reduces the amount of weed growth in the following year. Newsletter- Doug Dorgan advised the newsletter had been completed and mailed. So far only four newsletters had come back with incorrect address information which may indicate our mailing lists are relatively up to date. Nominating Committee- There are still no candidates for the position of President and Vice President. Pat Cubbage is agreeable to continuing as Treasurer and Doug Dorgan is willing to serve as Secretary. Annual Meeting Preparations Tent and Podium are reserved. Doug Dorgan will check with Bernice Packer regarding preparation of coffee in a large pot. Others have agreed to provide gas grills and pancake griddles. Chuck Cubbage will talk to Dave Baker, who works for Leader Marine, and Mark High at High’s Marine, regarding donation of items for prizes. Doug Dorgan or Bernice Packer will provide an agenda and minutes from the 2002 Annual Meeting. There were no Old Business issues other than those discussed above. New Business It was suggested that each officer and area representative provide feedback from their perspective or represented areas on various issues. It was noted that each area does not necessarily have a formal association. Concern was expressed by several board members regarding road maintenance due to the increase of heavy vehicle traffic, especially refuse trucks. The possibility of having only one refuse company making pickups around the lake was discussed and will be researched. The issue of the placement of sand along the shore was discussed again and Chuck Cubbage advised again that it was legal provided the sand does not go into the water. Suggestion was made that a sign could be placed at the public access site that the lake is patrolled by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department as a possible incentive for those using the lake to comply with various watercraft regulations. The next Lake Association Board meeting will be August 12 at the Van Buren Conference Center. Meeting was adjourned at 8:03 PM on motion from Ruth Wilkinson seconded by Pat Cubbage.
