EAGLE LAKE-PAW PAW ASSOCIATION

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

March 12, 2002

President Skip Youngblood brought the meeting to order at 7:00pm.  The minutes were passed out and read over.

RW moved to accept the minutes as presented.  Mike Johnson supported.  The proposed newsletter was looked over and suggestions made.

Pat Cubbage presented the treasurer’s report of $3256.74 in the checking account.

There is a ML&SA meeting at Boyne Mountain April 26, 27,28.  Pat and Chuck are going.

Chuck Cubbage gave a Weevil Report.  Eagle Lake had a lot of weevils to begin with.  With the beginning planting of 15,000 weevils in 2001 for the weed control project, there has been considerable progress.  Mike Johnson asked how are weevils measured.  Chuck answered there is a buoy marker and then it is strung out.  There has been a lot of propeller damage from boats.  This problem will have to be stressed in the coming year.  The additional planting of weevils for the year 2002 will be requested to be planted on the north side of the lake and other areas that appear to need them.  Bryan—is our new representative from Enviro Science. Better- Adequate markers are needed for “weevil sites”.

Information was passed out regarding the South Western Michigan Watershed Management Course.  Chuck Cubbage moved that we pay for up to three people from each section of the lake to attend.  Glen Wilkinson 2nd.  Motion passed.  Chuck Cubbage is already paid for through Paw Paw.  Doug Dorgan will attend.

Chuck Cubbage asked if the Association would be willing to donate to the “cause”.  Glen Wilkinson moved the Association donate $100.00.  Jerry King supported.  Motion passed.

Discussion turned to the web site.  Glen Wilkinson moved to move the web site to ML&SA.  Pat Cubbage supported.  Motion passed.

Concern was expressed with burning at the water edge.

Chuck Cubbage commented he would like to see “yard management for lake owners”.  Suggestion was made of planting native plants that have deep root systems.

Suggestion was made we could do a “work” party.  Re removing leaves- this could be mentioned at the Annual Meeting.  If someone has difficulty removing their leaves, they could contact their representative.  People need to be educated that what they do does make a difference to the lake.

Next meeting will be held on May 14, 2002.  There will also be a meeting the second Tuesday in June.  The Annual Meeting will be the last Saturday in June having the breakfast as we did in 2001.  It will be held at Keepsake Shores again.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernice Packer
