The count was done by “units”) Sheriff Gribler spoke. He mentioned the service available to offer free boat inspections which they would be willing to do after the meeting if we wish to do so next year. There are 113 lakes that they cover. Thirteen miles of shoreline. Sergeant Fred Siegl, Marine Commander, spoke. The new law states under $200 damage it is not mandatory to report, but he suggested in doing so. When classes are offered, they need at least ten people to do a class. When they do boat inspections, they check out the lights, etc. Boating classes are for adults also. Question was asked about life preservers. One is required for each person aboard. The preservers must be “out” on deck and readily available. Question was asked about boating classes. They are usually first week in April, 657-2006, Adults are strongly encouraged to attend also. Doug Dorgan commented he had attended the class and thought it was well worthwhile. Comment was made choice could be made to ‘wrongdoer’ class or ticket. Operator 12&13 years old can operate jet ski but must be with parent. Must have had class and must have permit in hand. Pamphlets were brought to be passed out. Classes are free. Bring sack lunch. Question was asked about riding close to shore. Stated the watercraft must be 100 feet out. Concern was expressed about rafts being out to far. Swimming is allowed any where. Re PWC, when person is in water from falling. Other boats must slow down, and must remain 100 feet. Sheriff Gribler commented the PWC hours are 8AM to 1 hour before legal sunset. Skiers may remain out 1 hour after sunset. Chuck Cubbage gave a report on the Weevil Update. Eurasian Milfoil can tolerate the cool weather and grow. Water clarity is not as it was last year. Weevil has done a good job. The pond weed now is a good sign. Water level is up which is also a good sign. Black stems indicate weevils have been doing their job. Enviro Science will be here around July 6, 2002. They will be planting an additional 10-15,000 weevils. It will probably be another 2-3 years before we know for sure how it works. Re: Seawall. The weevils must be able to crawl on the shore. Seawall are not good habitat for weevils. Chuck stated he would suggest people not put more in. He suggested putting rocks on seawall. We need to encourage people to educate their families. There needs to be a “NO WAKE” zone near the weevil areas. John Tapper asked Chuck to explain about the fertilizer. He suggested application of “no phosphorous” fertilizer. There should be no application of fertilizer or sprays less than 50 feet. Burning leaves need to be done 50 feet away and take away from the shore. John Tapper moved to accept the minutes of the Annual Meeting, 2001. Pat Cubbage 2nd. Motion carried. Treasurer Pat Cubbage gave the treasurer’s report of $2,842.80 balance. Names were drawn for the prizes. The Prizes consisted of: Inner Tube-made possible by David Baker; 6 T-shirts and a Portable grill which was the grand prize-made possible by John Tapper. Thank you David and John. The next scheduled meeting of the Eagle Lake Association Meeting will be August 11, 2002 at the Van Buren Conference Center. Meeting adjourned at 11:15AM.
