EAGLE LAKE-PAW PAW ASSOCIATION

Steering Committee Minutes
Tuesday, June 29, 1999

The meeting was called to order by Acting President, Mel Brown at 6:30 pm. The meeting was held at Chuck and Pat Cubbage’s, Eagle Lake Drive, Paw Paw.

All areas around the lake were represented. Please see list following. The mailings for the residents of Eagle Lake-Paw Paw were passed out. They were divided into the different areas of the lake and given to the proper representative. These will be handed out over the weekend of the 4th to help save postage. The ones that are not able to be handed out will be returned to Bernice Packer to be put in the mail.

Discussion turned to the first Annual Association meeting. Mel Brown suggested having a speaker. Several suggestions were made as possibilities. Chuck Cubbage will see about getting a speaker, possibly Don Garling or Cliff Bloom, the attorney for Michigan Lake and Streams Association. It was suggested Jason Broekstra from Professional Lake Management, Grand Rapids be invited.

Information on the alternatives for weed management will be made available. Chuck will see about getting information regarding the "weavel".

Mel will talk to Paw Paw Township Supervisor regarding the correct wording for a petition for weed control for whatever may be decided. Concern was expressed, petition ready to be signed at the Annual Meeting might be a little premature. Mel will still work on the form and do the ground work.

Harold Finley suggested the Permanent Board elected will make the decision on how the petition would be done. The consultant from Professional Lake Management, will give us a direction on what might be the best way to go.

Chuck Cubbage suggested inviting the Township Supervisor and Township Clerk.

Mel Brown had a copy of a letter from Professional Lake Management. Possible cost of weed treatment could cost $46,500. The worse case scenario could be $65,000 over a three year period. Glen Wilkinson took a copy of the letter to look over.

Nominations for officers were made to be presented to the floor at the Annual Meeting. President- Glen Wilkinson; Vice Present-Tom Kohl; Assistant Vice President-Mel Brown; Treasurer- Pat Cubbage; Secretary-Bernice Packer; Assistant Secretary-Barb Kohl.

Skip Youngblood suggested a summary be given of all the Steering Committee minutes. Everyone thought John Faul would be the best one to do this.

Comment was made the History of Eagle Lake would be interesting to know. The oldest resident on the lake would be the Finleys dating back to 1926 what is now Trails End. Glen Wilkinson stated Collins Cove dates back to 1936.

It was decided coffee, ice tea and lemonade will be served at the meeting.

There will be a meeting August 3, 1999, 6:30 pm to evaluate the First Eagle Lake-Paw Paw Association meeting. Bernice Packer informed the committee she will be out of town on that date. Barb Kohl will take the minutes.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernice Packer, Acting Secretary
