Annual Meeting
Lawrence Conference Center, Lawrence, Mi.
Saturday, July 24, 1999

Mel Brown, Acting President, called the Annual Meeting to order at 10:05 AM. There were 64 people in attendance. List follows. John Faul gave a summary of the meetings held by the Steering Committee since the original meeting in March.

Pat Cubbage, Acting Treasurer, stated we have $2126.00 in the Treasury as a result of Eagle Lake Residents sending in their dues.

The Proposed By-Laws were passed out to all present. John Faul read the By-Laws one by one. The By-Laws were derived from samples received from the DNR. There was discussion as to what constitutes a quorum. A suggestion of 20% was made. A hand vote was taken. A member is a family unit who has paid the $30.00 annual dues. Harold Finley stated a decision which constitutes the whole lake, ie weed control, etc. requires a 51% approval of the total people who have property around the lake.

Article V-Meetings, Section 2 was discussed. It was decided 60 days notice, if possible, should be given, prior to any Special Meeting of the membership called at the option of the President or when requested by any two members of the Board.

Article V-Meetings, Section 3 regarding a quorum. A quorum of the Association shall be no less than 20% of the entire membership.

Question was asked regarding member-at-large. Question made regarding the Board of Directors meetings. Will notification be made to the members when these meetings are held? The Meetings will not be closed. Perhaps individual associations could make meeting date known. Comment was made, the By-Laws should be an Annual Meeting discussion. It was suggested to have a proxy vote if members are not able to be present at the Annual Meeting. Mel Brown stated anything pressing to the members will be discussed by the Board of Directors.

Article X-Amendments, Section 1: The By-Laws may be amended at the Annual Meeting of the membership by a 2/3 vote of members in attendance.

Motion was made and supported to form the Eagle Lake-Paw Paw Association. Motion passed. Ruth Wilkinson moved to accept the By-Laws as amended. Harold Finley 2nd. Motion passed.

Mel Brown stated the nominations selected by the Steering Committee as officers of the Eagle Lake-Paw Paw Association. Glen Wilkinson as President (Collins Cove); Tom Kohl as Vice President (Keepsake Shores); Bernice Packer as Secretary (Carla Drive); Pat Cubbage, Treasurer (Eagle Lake Drive); Request was made for other nominations from the floor. There were none. Mel Brown entertained motion the nominations be closed. Motion was 2nd. "Aye" vote was taken. Motion passed.

The Officers of the Eagle Lake-Paw Paw Association are: President: Glen Wilkinson; Vice President-Tom Kohl; Secretary-Bernice Packer; Treasurer-Patricia Cubbage. Mel Brown will serve as Past President on the Board of Directors.

Poll was taken of representatives from the present Associations around the lake–Hoodrije Shores; Keepsake Shores; Palmer Beach; Eagle Lake Park; Trails End; Collins Cove; Eagle Lake Campers; Eagle Lake Subdivision. Each Association will name their own representative to act as member of the Board of Directors. John Tapper will be the Member at Large.

Chuck Cubbage presented a homemade mechanism (a piece of pipe with wire to hook to the end of a boat) for weed removal.

Chuck Cubbage introduced Dr. Wally Fusilier. He gave a talk of water treatment. He stated in some cases it’s best to let Mother Nature take care of it. Eurasian Milfoil can be harvested but it is important it be removed when it floats to the top. He stated there is a Company in Allegan who can perform a quality control survey of the lake. Due to a time shortage, Dr. Fusilier’s talk was limited. President Glen Wilkinson asked if the audience would be interested in having Dr. Fusilier return to give another talk and answer the many questions people seemed to have. It was agreed Dr. Fusilier will return.

President Wilkinson adjourned the meeting at 12:10 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Bernice Packer, Secretary  <<Back
