SEWER PROPOSAL
VOTED DOWN BY LAKE RESIDENTS
The deadline for voting on the proposed
sewer system has passed. To date, the township has
received 105 votes. 77 said no; 28 said yes; 95 were not
returned. Officially the vote was by land mass. The 51%
requirement was not met. CLA will continue to look into
other ways to address the sewer needs for Crockery Lake.
"BEEFED
UP" ANTI-FUNNELING ORDINANCE PASSED BY CHESTER
TOWNSHIP
After careful review of the three
ordinances created for Crockery Lake, the CLA Board
discovered that the funneling ordinance did not, in fact,
protect the lake from "funneling" as had been
contemplated. (An example of funneling would be a
developer buying a large tract of land and a small
lake-front lot. He would then develop the large piece of
land with homes, condos, etc. and give access to all
those homes via the small lake lot.)
The activity created on the lake at
that spot could be dangerous with so many people coming
and going--much like the boat landing and Grose Park. The
reason for the creation of the ordinance was because of
the relatively small size of our lake and the fact that
both ends of the lake could at some time be sold and
developed (with potential funneling). Consequently, the
Board contacted the attorney for Michigan Lake &
Stream Associations, an organization of which we are
members. This attorney specializes in lake issues. He
drafted the revisions needed; came to the Township
meeting on our behalf; and answers several questions via
phone.
On March 21, at the Chester Township
Board meeting, the changes were discussed. By unanimous
vote, the Township Board passed the amended ordinance
presented by CLA. The cost of the attorney was $1,200. In
the Board's opinion, he was worth every penny!
GAS, GAS, GAS !
MichCon states it has received enough
interest from lake residents to go ahead with the gas
lines. A big thank you to Lesha Gustin and Sue Wobma for
their efforts on this project.
2000 FIREWORKS
We still need a few more contributions
to meet our $2,000 goal for fireworks this year. If you
know of any businesses willing to make a donation to our
fireworks, please contact your Board representative. We
need two "volunteer pontoons" for July 3 one to
carry the equipment needed from shore to the rafts; and
one emergency pontoon at the time of the show. Neither
pontoon will be "tied up" for a long period of
time. Contact Linda Lane at 887-1562.

MAY
"TO-DO'S"
- Sharpen mower blades for a better
cut and a healthier truf. Dull blades will tear
the blade which provides more sites for disease
infection
- Deter geese & ducks by
planting some short native grasses at the water's
edge (some native grasses are only 12" high)
- Start a buffer strip!!
- If buying a new mower, consider a
mulching mower so you don't have to collect grass
clippings.
