Introduction for World-Wide Web versionThe Field Guide to Valuable Aquatic Plants of the Great Lakes was developed in 1986 by Donald W. Schloesser and published by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Cooperative Extension Service (now Michigan State University Extension). The booklet contained some of the best photographs available for helping to identify underwater plants in the Great Lakes region. These plants are not only present in the connecting channels of the Great Lakes, but are also some of the most common plants found in inland lakes. However, the booklet only had a single printing, and has been unavailable for a number of years. This web site was created so that information in the booklet would remain available. The format of the original has been maintained, although slight alterations were used to better fit the orientation of web pages. This web site has been optimized for screen resolutions of 1024 x 768 and higher. Clicking on most photographs will bring up a higher resolution photograph (up to 1280 x 1024 pixels).
