Cold Creek Water Testing Project

 Project: 

A group of eleven Advanced Placement Chemistry students from Interlochen Arts Academy tested two of three branches of Cold Creek in Benzie County during the 2001-2002 school year.  Cold Creek feeds in to Crystal Lake.  Interlochen Arts Academy worked in conjunction with the Crystal Lake Watershed Fund to conduct the testing.  Testing occurred at several times during the school year and the data from two of the trips were documented for the project.  Electronic probes made by Vernier Software and Technology were used to gather the data.  The probes were interfaced to a Texas Instruments TI-92 graphing calculator via a LabPro-also made by Vernier Software and Technology.

Click Here to view the project data.  In general, the students found the streams to be in good health.  The data compared well with tests taken by members of the Crystal Lake Watershed Fund within the accuracy for all of the devices used to monitor water quality.
