Fecal Coliform Testing At Rush Lake

Coliform tests are taken at seven different sites on Rush Lake at various intervals during the summer season. The results are monitored closely and if any of the tests read 200 or over, retesting is done immediately. Normally, there isn't cause for concern unless results continue to remain high. An occasional higher result can come from a goose having been in the testing area shortly before a sample is taken, the bottom sediment being stirred just prior to testing, or similar happenings. Whatever the cause, higher test results are always retested to be certain there isn't a problem. The swimming areas for Sunset, Lakeview and Hillside Parks are three of the test sites. One testing site is in the middle of the lake while the other two are at the entrances to the two canals at the west end of the lake.
The beach area in Moon Shadows was added to the testing areas in August of 2007.
