2007 Fall Conference For many lake property owners this summer has been exceptional. Recreational activities could not have had better weather. Unfortunately our trees, scrubs and grasses have suffered because of the unending sunshine. Of course there is one benefit to the owners; they don’t have to mow their grass unless they are watering from their lakes. I’m sure the lack of rain has impacted our lake and ground water levels as well, as making the fire dangers much higher then normal. On July 7th my husband, Paul, and I went to Burt Lake Preservation Association annual meeting. I was very impressed by the attendance at the meeting and how the meeting was conducted. The associations President, Mr. Frank Kestler, kept the meeting on track even though there were many questions concerning the Indian situation. August 13th Paul and I will be attending Black Lake Association monthly meeting. I have the agenda for ML&SA’s annual Fall Regional Seminar and I will present it at that time. I will be getting this information out to all of the associations in Region 11. I would like to know when the other Associations have their meetings and if possible I would try to attend. Region 10 and 11 along with region 9 will be host it’s annual ML&SA Fall Regional Seminar on Saturday, September 15th, at BJ’s restaurant in Gaylord, Michigan. Our speakers will be Attorney Stuart Hollander, Sheriff Doug Baum and Mr. Marty Prehn. *Mr. Hollander will address how property owners may elect to pass on their property to their children, if they wish, legally at the best tax advantage, this is a very important topic. *Sheriff Baum will tell of the changes in marine and ORV laws that could affect you. *Mr. Prehn will speak on what is happening in our states legislature that could impact you as a property owner or your waterway, and new bills being presented. Registration will begin at 9:30 am, meeting will start promptly at 10:00 am and finishing no later that 3:00 pm. Of course if you elect to you pre-register information along with registration forms will be mailed to your lake officers, or you can find a registration form at www.mlswa.org. The cost of your registration will include the famous BJ’s buffet, this includes the soup/salad bar, side dishes, entrée and dessert bars you can‘t go wrong.
