Lakes & Streams Leadership Institute

Class of 2002

Classroom setting

The Institute includes some time in the classroom.   Participants may hear a lecture by a water resource expert, listen to a panel discussion or participate in learning activities.

Discussions between class members

One of the requirements for the Institute is to complete an applied project and prepare a presentation for a poster session. Here Maynard Martin describes his project to fellow Institute class members Ron Calo and Michael Gaden.

 Individual/Group Projects

During one session of the Institute class members where able to informally discuss water resource management with representatives from nonprofit organizations involved in lake and stream management. Here class member Jim Zavislak discusses the Izaak Walton League's wetland program with the League's representative Bob Stegmien.

Practical experience in the field

The Institute includes time out in the stream and on the lake, learning about aquatic ecology. Here Kristine Boley-Morse and Ron Calo practice taking a plankton sample from Wintergreen Lake.
