Baldwin Lake Association Newsletter

An Anchor for our Community

By resolution of the executive and advisory boards,

Greg Buss, President

President’s Corner

I was thumbing thru issues of the BLA newsletters to see what have been the topics of the letters and articles in the past couple of years. First, I want to retract a statement I printed in last fall’s newsletter. I was complaining about setting records for rain one month and cold for another and that we need a good old fashioned normal summer. Well, I failed to realize that part of a normal summer includes the possibility of severe storms. Since we didn’t have any strong storms last year, we certainly have made up for it this June. Many who are reading this had suffered damage to their homes and personal property and might still be trying to put things back to the way they were before the storms. I lost a 75 tree and the top 25 feet off another two trees. At first, I thought that this was tragic and how was I going to cope and clean such a mess. After seeing the destruction on Sunset and the east side of the lake, I then was actually thankful for what had happened to me. The trees will be missed, the yard will look different, the house was not damaged, and I will be sore from the clean-up for quite awhile but none of these compares to the havoc of home destruction and temporary life changes. We hope and pray that the repairs will be swift, your family safe, and everyday activities will resume quickly.

Our annual meeting is July 17th, 9:00 am at the Cass County Conservation Club. Coffee, juice and donuts will be available starting at 8:30. Please use only 90 minutes of your time to attend and help keep the viability of the BLA strong and active for our community. We need your input, concerns and energy!! We keep getting compliments sent with the association dues or mosquito spray donations, so we know we are appreciated and what we do is of value. A very few number of people have to do all the work. It would be great to have enough show up Saturday, July 17th that we run out of coffee.

Kool-Aid Pie (“Easy as Pie” recipe J)
  1 envelope Kool-Aid (unsweetened)

1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk

1 8-oz. carton of Cool Whip

1 purchased graham cracker shell

With your mixer, add any flavor Kool-Aid to the Milk. Mix well. Then add the Cool Whip. Put in shell and store in freezer. This is so easy and tasty too.

BOOKING A HOTEL ROOM: Peter Greenberg says the best time to book a room is 4:00 local time on a Sunday. Call the direct line, not the 800 number, and ask to speak to the manager on duty, not the person at reservations. They have no power to change fees.

BOOKING A FLIGHT: Fare compare.com says the best time to book a flight is 3 p.m. Eastern time on a Tuesday. Monday night is when the major airlines announce sales. Usually the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday and often the first flight of the day.

Thanks to all of you for supporting the Garden Club at our find-raising breakfast. We made over $300 for our community work. Have a safe and fun summer; and please obey all the boating safety rules. See you at the annual meeting !! Please come .
