2005 Secchi Disk and Fecal Coliform testing results

The first Secchi Disk tests were done on May 6^th.

Northwest Cove with a depth of 26’ had a 12.75'

Little Baldwin with a depth of 26’ had a 10.5’

The Deep Basin with a depth of 57’ had a 13'

The South End with a depth of 37’ had a 12.25’

The second Secchi Disk tests were done on May 18^th.

Northwest Cove with a depth of 26’ had a 12.5'

Little Baldwin with a depth of 26’ had a 11.5’

The Deep Basin with a depth of 57’ had a 12.75'

The third Secchi Disk tests were done on June 9^th.

The Fourth Secchi Disk tests were done on June 22^th.
It was sunny & high 80's with NO substantial rain for weeks. That & Little Baldwin being dewatered for sewers leaves the lake level a little lower.

The Fifth Secchi Disk tests were done on July 13^th.
It has been a drought in the area for weeks, both high heat & virtually no rain. The day was another Sunny Hot day with a small/short shower starting at last site. The Lake level is lower.

The South End with a depth of 37’ had a 10.25’

The Sixth Secchi Disk tests were done on July 28^th.
The day was Sunny Warm day (Lower temperatures than the past few weeks). There have been 3 days of some rain. The Lake level is near normal again.

The Deep Basin with a depth of 57’ had a 6.75'

The South End with a depth of 37’ had a 7’

The Seventh Secchi Disk tests were done on August 10^th.

The Eighth Secchi Disk tests were done on August 27^th.
A slight warming, low 80s, after a period of cool weather.

The Fecal Coliform tests were scheduled for July & September, at sites around the Lake. As Carol Erbe mentioned previously, "Results will also be given at association meetings and in newsletters." and "The exact location will be kept confidential…".

The USEPA recommendations (in 2000) are:
for body contact recreation is fewer than 200 colonies per 100 mL;
for fishing and boating, fewer than 1000 colonies per 100 mL.

The first set of Fecal Coliform tests were done at the sites around Baldwin Lake on July 6^th. The results
of those tests, in random order, were: 140 -- 13 -- 90 -- 4 -- 2400 -- 24 -- 240 -- 50 -- 81 -- 65 -- 110 -- 15

The second set of Fecal Coliform tests were done on September 7^th but the Laboratory
had an internal problem with the samples so they requested that we redo those locations.
The results of those that did not need to be redone were: 5 -- 18 -- 72 -- 90 -- 250.
